As the next BCB president, Faruque Ahmed takes over for Nazmul Hassan

Faruque Ahmed was elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following Nazmul Hassan’s resignation on Wednesday, August 21, during a board meeting in Dhaka. Notably, Ahmed captained the squad for a brief time while playing cricket for Bangladesh from 1988 to 1999.

In addition, he played for Bangladesh in the England World Cup of 1999. Ahmed made 105 runs in seven ODIs for Bangladesh, with a career-high score of 57. On May 27, 1999, he made his final appearance for his country, Australia. Shahriar Nafees, a relative of the right-handed batter, represented Bangladesh in 24 Test matches, 75 ODIs, and one Twenty20 match between 2005 and 2013.

Faruque Ahmed remained involved in Bangladesh cricket administration even after he left the game.

He was also the head selector from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2013 to 2016. But the 58-year-old quit before serving out his second term because he wouldn’t agree to the selection panel’s enlargement to include three more members.

Iftekhar Ahmed, the chairman of the BCB’s umpires committee, told on Wednesday that the development was confirmed. The board of the Asian nation’s cricket association is now meeting in the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Prior to Ahmed’s election, the previous president had resigned.

According to earlier reports, Nazmul was prepared to resign from his position as BCB CEO. He was in his fourth term as BCB chief, and since the country’s sociopolitical unrest began when students demonstrated against the recently dissolved Sheikh Hasina administration, he and his wife have been living in hiding in London.

Bangladesh is currently on a test series tour of Pakistan.

The Bangladesh cricket team is presently in Pakistan, where they will take against Shan Masood and company in a two-match Test series. On Wednesday, August 21, the first Test match will take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
