Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player, brought attention to the fact that some of the IPL’s failing teams are always up for a mega-auction. The future of mega-auctions has been a topic of much controversy ahead of the next edition of the lucrative league, with certain teams, notably Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, voicing opposition to it. Nevertheless, rumours state that Punjab Kings requested a makeover and proposed that BCCI hold a massive auction in advance of the upcoming IPL.
Although the Apex Council has not decided yet, a mega-auction is very certainly in the works. In reflection, Aakash Chopra said that although teams like Punjab, Delhi, and Bengaluru, who haven’t won the trophy yet, may have supported the mega-auction, he reminded them that these teams haven’t succeeded in winning it even though the auction is held every three or five years.
Certain franchises ask, ‘How can we win if we can’t push the reset or reboot button? We want to completely demolish our current team since it is not good. We want to start over, so we might maintain a select handful and let go of everyone else.
On his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said, “If not, it’s unfair because you have to hold a huge auction every third or fifth year.”
There were rumours that the Punjab team was involved. Given that they have never prevailed and that they would never be able to do so if things continue the way they are, the Delhi or Bengaluru teams could be the contenders. The 46-year-old continued, “The counterquestion to that is – You haven’t won even though it was happening every three or five years.
The former cricket player added that if mega-auctions continue to take place occasionally, teams will not invest in any talent. Notably, every elite team in the competition keeps one or more academies from which they develop and choose players. Chopra hinted that if these massive auctions continue, the process would come to an end.

“You feel a little disappointed as you should have won but didn’t. You want it to occur again because you are angry. IPL (franchises) won’t be interested in investing in any player if you keep playing auction-auction,” he said.
