After more than ten years as the public face of Punjab cricket, Mandeep Singh shocked the Indian cricket community when he announced his move to Tripura for the 2024–25 season. Thanks to the association’s consistent support throughout the years, the Jalandhar-born artist announced his departure from Punjab on social media. It wasn’t until the next day that the underlying reasoning for his choice became apparent.
The cricket player dispelled age-based beliefs about fitness and talents in a player’s lifespan by sharing the revelation, which addressed the preconceptions of multiple stakeholders. Despite being older than thirty, the former captain of Punjab also emphasised his Yo-Yo Test results to demonstrate his physical prowess.
“People begin to believe that your career is ending when you turn thirty years old. I was also not picked for the Indian Premier League last year. I still feel like a lot of cricket. Additionally, the veteran from within the country mentioned that growth anxiety was the true cause for leaving Punjab. Mandeep was of the opinion that a large team such as Punjab would not consider him for any or all formats, particularly white-ball ones, given the abundance of young players in the lineup. The cricketer, however, was thrilled to seize the Tripua opportunity since he believed it would be the ideal squad for him to pursue personal objectives.
“I started having a suspicion that I wouldn’t be picked for Punjab in all three formats. The administration of the squad may like to provide opportunities for the many young people that are rising up. At present, though, I would like to play all three formats.
