I would like to coach again in the IPL: Ricky Ponting

After the Australian took over in 2018, the Delhi Capitals and Ricky Ponting called it quits in July, capping a seven-year partnership. Parth Jindal, the co-owner of the team, revealed that they are considering hiring an Indian coach in place of Ponting in order to identify and nurture local talent. In agreement, the former cricket player said that he wasn’t the ideal fit for the Capitals and that they wanted to go in a different way.

The 49-year-old, though, is excited to play in the IPL once more in 2025. Ponting might work well in the systems of many teams that are looking to replace their current coach. Prior to being connected to the Capitals, he oversaw the Mumbai Indians club until Mahela Jayawardene took over.

“Coaching in the IPL again would be my dream.” Every year I’ve been engaged, whether it was in my early years as a player or during my two years as head coach in Mumbai, I’ve had a terrific time. After that, I spent seven seasons in Delhi, which sadly didn’t turn out to be very successful.

“I believe my primary motivation for going there was to try and win some hardware for the team, but that didn’t work out,” Ricky Ponting stated in the most recent ICC Review episode.

More than anything, they expressed a want to spend some additional time in India with many of the local players, so they made it apparent that they wanted to take a different approach with someone who could offer them a little more time and availability during the off-season. With everything else I had going on, I just couldn’t accomplish it. I predict that they will ultimately hire an Indian head coach,” he continued.

Ponting also expressed gratitude to DC for providing him with the chance to collaborate with the team and a number of outstanding players throughout the years. In addition to wishing them well in the future, he said he would be willing to coach an IPL club in the future.

“While I hope they have the best of luck, I mentioned that I may have some opportunities in the coming months, and I would love to be coaching in the IPL once more next season,” Ponting added.
