Mohammed Shami, the top bowler for India, has missed World Cup 2023 because of an ankle injury. In the semi-final match against New Zealand, he starred with a seven-wicket haul, the most total for an Indian bowler in World Cup history. He also had the highest wicket-taking percentage. Despite the difficult and drawn-out nine-month recovery process, the pacer may be planning a September return.
sources suggest that before attempting an international comeback with a Test series against Bangladesh in September, Shami may need to compete in the Duleep Trophy to demonstrate his match fitness. Currently completing the final phase of his rehabilitation, the 33-year-old is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The All India Men’s Senior Selection Committee chief, Ajit Agarkar, affirmed the reports that the right-arm pacer had made significant progress.
We are generally aware of the guys’ identities; they are currently dealing with injuries and we hope they will recover. It’s encouraging that Shami has begun to bowl. The first Test was originally intended to take place on September 19. Before the tour to Sri Lanka, Agarkar said in a press conference, “I don’t know if that is his timeline for recovery; will have to ask the guys at the NCA about that.”
“There are a tonne of tests coming up. Some depth will be necessary. These are the obvious ones: Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj have been around for a long. There will be some discussion about it, though. We can build individuals up like that because there is a tonne of first-class cricket coming up,” he continued.
Ranji Trophy is another goal for Mohammed Shami.
In addition, the Uttar Pradesh native has expressed his wish to play first-class cricket for his native Bengal team before to returning to the international scene. Shami may not be able to play in Ranji owing to busy international matches, though, if the comeback is successful and he plays in the Bangladesh series.
