Speaking recently on England’s open white-ball head coach position, former cricketer Michael Atherton recommended that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) start a conversation about bringing Andy Flower back into the lineup. Nasser Hussain, a long-time teammate, now expressed the same sentiment, pointing out that while some may view Flower’s hiring as a step backward, he noted the former cricket player’s recent success in franchise cricket.
Notably, England became the top-ranked Test team and won the 2010 T20 World Cup under Flower’s leadership. He then had a falling out with ECB, which caused him to leave. Hussain has urged ECB managing director Rob Key to review his resume and get in touch with him since he feels that the moment is perfect for him to return. He also referred to Flower as England’s best choice.
“I believe Andy has moved on, but some would see ( Andy Flower) as a step backward—’never go back, you are going back to a former England coach.
‘” IPL and franchises were something Andy strongly opposed, but that was a very long time ago. Hussain told the PA news agency, “Now he has travelled the world, winning for most franchises and doing some really good things.”
“He’s an excellent coach. You only need to glance at his resume, and if Rob Key manages to obtain Andy Flower’s resume, it’s hard to come up with a better option—that is, if Andy wants to do it, anyhow. It’s as simple as looking at the best candidate for the position. Working with Kumar, I can attest to his sharp mind. He continued, “I’ve played with and seen Andy Flower, a terrific player-coach and brilliant man.
Hussain added that Brendon McCullum and Kumar Sangakkara are two other excellent choices. He went on to say that the current task is not to identify the ideal candidate but rather to identify someone who genuinely wants to lead England’s national team as coach.

“It is not so much about finding the candidate as it is about finding the candidate who genuinely wants to do the job,” Hussain stated. “They are all very good candidates.”
