Gautam Gambhir's childhood coach recalls his behaviour, saying, -'He would cry after losing matches'

Sanjay Bhardwaj, Gautam Gambhir’s youth coach, talked about his former student’s love of the game and drive for success from an early age. Having won three, lost one, and tied one of his five games in his new position, Gambhir, the current head coach of India, has had a wild start.

According to Bhardwaj, Gambhir is frequently misinterpreted as being arrogant and possessing the wrong mindset. But according to the coach, Gambhir is like a “12-year-old kid,” who never looks to lose and never takes a setback lightly.

“He still acts like a little child nowadays. He is not malicious. He looks like a child of twelve. He approaches winning with an arrogant demeanour, despite what some people believe. He used to cry after losing matches when I made him play matches after nets. Even in those days, he disliked losing. Thus, it goes without saying that someone with his genuine attitude would always be serious “Bhardwaj stated, appearing on Manjot Kalra’s YouTube show, the winner of the 2018 Under-19 World Cup.

Bhardwaj restated that Gambhir generally has a serious and arrogent appearance, claiming that this is primarily due to his winning mindset.

Gautam focus will be on the tactical elements: Bhardwaj

After Sri Lanka and India’s first ODI finished in a draw, former Indian cricket players Ajay Jadeja and Saba Karim attacked Gambhir. Shubman Gill, a part-time off-spinner, gave up 14 runs on a challenging surface; Jadeja and Karim identified this as the game’s pivotal moment since they believed it gave Sri Lanka the advantage.

Bhardwaj believes, though, that Gambhir’s head coaching responsibilities will differ from those of his predecessors, such as Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri.

Gautam Gambhir is not interested in pursuing the technical details. Since technical advancement is not required at that level. Technically, you are competent enough to be here. Gambhir’s focus will be on the tactical elements. Gambhir’s role will be to infuse confidence and spirit into a player who might not be very sure of himself,” Bhardwaj continued.
