'Whenever we get a chance, we chat for some time' - MS Dhoni about his relationship with Virat Kohli

The great Indian captain MS Dhoni recently opened up about his friendship with batting great Virat Kohli, discussing their mutual bond both on and off the pitch.

The renowned wicketkeeper-batter, who helped India win two World Cups, is well-known for his cool head and astute strategic thinking. Conversely, Kohli became one of the best batters of all time under Dhoni’s leadership.

Their ten-year journey together has been full of special collaborations and mutual successes. Dhoni expressed his affection and deep regard for Kohli.

For a very long time, we were comrades who represented India in cricket. When it comes to international cricket, Kohli has consistently been among the best. Although we don’t get together very often, we always find time to go to the side and talk when we can. At an occasion, Dhoni remarked, “We will talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship.”

It’s always been enjoyable to bat alongside Virat: MS Dhoni

Dhoni recalled their middle-order partnerships and their chemistry on the pitch. While they ran a lot of twos and threes in the game, Dhoni enjoyed batting with Kohli.

“And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun,” he stated.

India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 was greatly aided by Kohli, who scored the game-winning 76 against South Africa in the final. With this triumph, Kohli became the only player after Dhoni to win all three ICC white-ball titles, adding another feather to his hat.

Dhoni, meanwhile, made his IPL 2024 debut following a successful knee operation. With a season best of 37* and a total of 14 fours and 13 sixes, he amassed 161 runs in 11 innings at an average of 53.66 and a strike rate of 220.54.
