Senior Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul were observed putting in a lot of practice in Colombo ahead of their team’s first One-Day International against Sri Lanka.
As he watched them bat from a distance, head coach Gautam Gambhir was thrilled with how well they were batting in the nets.
Kohli was seen batting with Rahul in a video released by the BCCI, while Rohit concentrated more on striking cleanly. They played the spinners later as well.
Following his batting practice, fielding drills were conducted after a long conversation between Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. As the game came to a close, Rohit could be seen chatting with the head coach about the Men in Blue’s ongoing debate over who should play wicketkeeper—Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are both under consideration. If one of the cricket players decides to bat at number six, both may end up playing in the end. India will then have just five bowling options when they play.
The team management is promoting Shreyas Iyer as a possible sixth bowling option in light of this. Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav have performed effectively in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, after Abhishek Sharma. The most recent person on the list may be Iyer. Despite being out of action due to a back ailment, Iyer did not bowl in the ODI World Cup despite Rohit, Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Suryakumar Yadav all participating.

He has bowled in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and against Sri Lanka in 2023. In the next series, it is anticipated that he will act in a similar manner. The skipper of the KKR, who was cut from the BCCI contract, is also making a comeback to international cricket in the meantime.
