Geoffrey Boycott, a former cricket player for England, has had surgery to treat throat cancer. The 83-year-old was readmitted to the hospital shortly after that due to pneumonia. In relation to that, Boycott recently disclosed that his life was spared because his wife acted quickly to have him taken to the hospital.
He said that as the oxygen level fell to 35, his wife Rachael made the quick decision to contact for help. Geoffrey Boycott conveyed his appreciation to her for taking swift action and to all of the supportive letters and well-wishers.
“I appreciate all of the kind and encouraging remarks that you have provided. I felt fortunate to be alive when I left the hospital late on Thursday and am now at home. My wife Rachael’s quick thinking is the reason I’m still here. In his column for The Telegraph, Boycott stated, “She acknowledged that my recuperation after surgery for throat cancer had taken a negative turn.
“After the surgery, I was recovering at home and felt okay at first. However, over night, I started having hallucinations, had trouble speaking, and looked terrible. She inserted our home pulse oximeter on my finger, and it showed that my blood oxygen level was 35%. She called for an ambulance at that point since she realised there was a serious issue. It has completely exhausted me, and I’m very sure I wouldn’t have survived if Rachael hadn’t moved so swiftly,” he said.
Boycott was taking antibiotics. He was fed through a tube that was attached to his nose while in the hospital. The Yorkshire native praised the commitment of the hospital’s physicians and nurses and expressed gratitude to them. He clarified that eating via his nose had helped cure his throat, and that his current goal is to return and enjoy the fresh air in his garden.

All I have to do now is regain my strength and move cautiously throughout the house and garden. I wish to fill my lungs with some fresh air. I’ll be coughing up stuff for a while, but maybe the fresh air will speed up my recovery,” he said.
