During the current Twenty20 International (T20I) series between India and Sri Lanka, Sanju Samson was presented with two opportunities, but he did not take them.
The first Twenty20 International saw Rishabh Pant remain as India’s preferred wicketkeeper-batter, as the Kerala cricketer was left off the pitch. Samson, however, was selected to play in the second Twenty20 International instead of Shubman Gill, who was sidelined by a neck spasm. The wicketkeeper opened the innings and was used as a speciality batter. Maheesh Theekshana, however, fired him for a golden duck.
Shubman came back into the squad for the third Twenty20 International on Tuesday, July 30, while Samson slid to his preferred No. 3 place. But after Yashasvi Jaiswal was out to Theekshana in the second over, he was called upon right away.
Before being removed for a duck by rookie Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Samson played three dots. The 29-year-old attempted to play an uppish flick shot in an attempt to free himself from the chains. He did, however, close the bat face a little too soon, and the ball took an outside edge that found its way straight into deep point’s clutches.
Rain forced the prior match to be reduced to an eight-over match. The third match, which is anticipated to be a complete 20-over encounter, gave Samson the chance to play a lengthy innings. He had plenty of time to position himself on a somewhat dry surface, so he will be upset at the way he was dismissed. Samson will have to wait for his next chance to play for India in the ODI series because he is not included in the team.

In October, the Men in Blue will play three matches against Bangladesh to make their T20I comeback. The Pulluvila native’s chances of being selected for that series would be interesting to watch because his luck hasn’t always been in India’s favour.
