Waqar Younis, a former captain, is being considered for the position of director of cricket affairs by Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. A trustworthy source claims that Naqvi has taken a cue from other boards and wants a former player to manage all matters pertaining to cricket.
According to our source, Waqar Younis is considered to be among the top contenders and is anticipated to be handed complete control over men’s cricket.
According to Outlook, the source stated that Waqar Younis is a strong contender to be given full control over managing men’s cricket, including communicating with the two foreign head coaches, national selectors, and domestic cricket departments.
“Naqvi wants to decentralise things, especially when it comes to cricket-related problems. He does not want to centralise all authority. In the future, the director of cricket would also oversee international cricket scheduling and matters, he continued.
The source added that in addition to other board-related issues, the PCB chairman is currently giving his whole attention on the Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan is scheduled to host. It is important to note that the Indian team’s unwillingness to come to Pakistan for the competition is the present source of friction within the PCB.
The source said of Naqvi, “as the federal interior minister, it is only fair that all cricket matters are handled by specialists and not only people in administration.”
