With the kind of potential and abilities that Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad possess, 2007 T20 World Cup winner Robin Uthappa believes that two of the leading candidates should be regular members of the playing XI.
Since the announcement of Virat Kohli’s retirement from Twenty20 international cricket last month, fans have been wondering how someone will be able to replace the enormous shoes of the former captain of India.
Over the years, India has been fortunate to produce a number of renowned batters. Among their respective contemporaries, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virat Kohli made names for themselves as some of the best players. Following Kohli’s departure from the game’s shortest format, fans have been debating potential successors to lead India’s batting attack in the future. Shubman and Ruturaj have shown remarkable skill sets, making them viable options.
Robin Uthappa praised Shubman for his ability to combine touch and power, although he felt that Ruturaj was the more reliable batter of the two.
“They’re both excellent players, so why can’t we have them both?” When it comes to T20 cricket, their stats speak for themselves. There’s no choice between the two. You can see that Ruturaj is a little more constant when it comes to the figures when we look at consistency. However, Shubman Gill offers you both touch and power versatility,” the speaker on Sony Sports Network stated.
Uthappa continued, “It’s difficult to choose between the two of them; ideally you would like to see both of them play. Why shouldn’t India have both of them play? They are both format players.”

Russell Arnold, a former cricketer from Sri Lanka who was also a member of the panel, stated that Shubman would be the best player to replace Kohli because of the Punjab batsman’s versatility.
“I think Shubman Gill has a lot of solidity, therefore I’ll go with him. He can switch gears at any time, and the guys surrounding him are talented. Arnold stated on Sony Sports Network, “He’s a different kind of player than the other Indian players. He won’t power cricket, but he will get it into various locations.

Prior to the current Sri Lankan tour, Shubman was named India’s vice-captain for white-ball cricket. He has amassed 539 runs at a strike rate of 142.59 and an average of 29.94 from 20 Twenty20 Internationals. Ruturaj, who was left out of the previously stated trip, has scored 633 runs at a strike rate of 143.54 and an average of 39.56 from 20 T20I innings.
