This Wednesday night’s meeting between the franchise owners and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to revolve over the ‘Impact Player’ rule. A one-page, five-point agenda that was presented with the franchise owners indicates that the BCCI wants to reach some kind of agreement on the “Impact Player Rule,” which has caused division in the IPL cricket community.
This meeting, which first announced, is scheduled on July 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the BCCI office, which is located on the fourth floor of the Wankhede Stadium Complex.
Within the IPL ecosystem, the ‘Impact Player’ rule that was implemented a few years ago has generated a great deal of reflection and discussion. Although the majority of players and coaches are thought to be against it, the broadcasters, who have contributed more than Rs 48,000 crore to the league, appear to be firmly in favour of it continuing.
The fact that the BCCI is unsure about the issue itself may be the reason it was added to the meeting schedule. Board representatives are aware of the worries that the regulation could harm the development of all-rounders, players who are essential to a team’s success at any level of the competition, even though they generally appreciate that the rule gives an additional Indian player a shot.
The BCCI might decide to remove the regulation from the Syed Mushtaq Ali domestic T20 league, where it was initially tested a few years ago, and it wouldn’t be shocking at all. Though no judgement has been taken yet, there are significant signs from within the BCCI that the regulation is being reconsidered. In a few days, it is anticipated to accept a call.

The remaining items on the agenda will, predictably, centre around the retention problem. The agenda item number one outlines the issue of consideration:
ITEM NO. 1: Discussion on IPL Player Regulations including:
A. Players Retention / Right to Match
B. Salary Cap (Auction Purse, Incremental Performance Pay & Match Fee)
C. Big Auction
D. Capped to uncapped players
E. Player Trade / Player Loan
As can be seen from the agenda above, both the BCCI and the IPL franchise appear receptive to the idea of giving a star player an annual rise. However, there is no discussion of increasing the current three-auction cycle to five.
