Parth Jindal, the co-owner of the Delhi Capitals, explains why the team parted ways with head coach Ricky Ponting

The Delhi Capitals, led by head coach Ricky Ponting, departed after the team missed out on the IPL 2024 playoffs. Ponting had been with the team since 2018. The team saw more bad days than good ones when he led them to the IPL 2020 finals, where they were defeated by the Mumbai Indians.

They won the most points in the 2021 season, however they fell short against the Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier and the Kolkata Knight Riders in the elimination round. They haven’t placed in the top four since the 2022 mega auction, thus DC was forced to make the difficult decision to cut Ponting.

Parth Jindal, the co-owner, was pleased with the calibre of players they had, including Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and others, but he wanted a coach who is always available.

In contrast to Ponting, who was previously available for the auction and for somewhat more than two months during the IPL, Jindal stated that they are searching for someone for a full-time position.

“There will be a meeting when we genuinely present our opinions on the retention and release guidelines for the mega-auction to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). At the Delhi Capitals, we have an excellent core group of players. We have a very strong core, as evidenced by players like Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tristan Stubbs, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed, according to Jindal, who made this statement in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18.

The necessary coaching arrangement must be full-time. At all times, they must be accessible in both the country and the city. We have made this adjustment only for that reason,” he continued.

This suggests that DC intends to appoint a permanent Indian coach as well. Though the team hasn’t decided yet, Delhi Cricket Director Sourav Ganguly has previously stated that he wants to become a head coach.
