Sanath Jayasuriya praises Yashasvi Jaiswal's hard ethic and Jasprit Bumrah's logical thinking

In the area of aggressive batting, few sports heroes can match the skill of former Sri Lankan mainstay Sanath Jayasuriya. Few people, in fact, could provide more perceptive analysis of the rapidly rising Indian southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal as he moves up the ranks.

During a recent interview, Jayasuriya was questioned regarding his opinions on Jaiswal, specifically regarding the latter’s developing skill set and the progress he has made in his early career. He showered the 22-year-old with compliments and called him an extraordinary talent to look out for in the future. Despite an exceptionally harsh upbringing, Jayasuriya praised his passion and unwavering pursuit of perfection, pointing out the considerable amount of effort he has put in.

“Jaiswal is yet another outstanding Indian talent. He has been working extremely hard to achieve his goals since he is passionate about doing well. He is performing because he is a committed young man who has made sacrifices. His work ethic is outstanding, from what I’ve heard. In an exclusive interview with The Times of India, Jayasuriya said, “We recently had a session with Zubin (Bharucha), the director of high performance at RR, and he told us how hard Jaiswal trains.”

Bowlers with astute thinking as Bumrah are at the top: Sanath Jayasuriya

In response to a question concerning how he would handle a bowler as strong as India’s master pace bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, the former cricket player showed incredible composure and maturity. He pointed out that Bumrah was a special and difficult opponent who deserved respect on his numerous “prime days” because of his extraordinary consistency.

“Bumrah is a special bowler. He deserves our admiration for his abilities. You have to give him respect when he’s performing well, but on the other days, you should take advantage of his shortcomings. He and other elite bowlers succeed because they have a clear plan for what they want to do, Jayasuriya continued.

Because of workload management concerns, the selectors have agreed to give Jasprit Bumrah some time off from playing in either leg of the Sri Lankan trip. Conversely, Jaiswal is expected to play for the Men in Blue and could open alongside vice captain Shubman.
