Shubman Gill could one day lead India in each of the three formats: Vikram Rathour

"I feel captaincy brought the best out of Virat and Rohit and I feel, it will do the same for Shubman," Rathour stated.

One day, Shubman Gill could captain India in all three formats: Vikram Rathour

During the Zimbabwe tour, Shubman Gill took charge of Team India for the first time, and the youthful squad won the series 4-1. In the Indian Premier League, the India opener is also ahead of Gujarat Titan. In addition, he beat out the expected selections to be selected vice-captain for the forthcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Gill will soon lead India in all three forms, according to former India batting coach Vikram Rathour.

Following a devastating loss in the opening Twenty20 International, the 24-year-old adopted a tactical mindset for the Zimbabwe series. When GT failed to secure a postseason berth in the IPL 2024, his captaincy came under fire. Rathour emphasised that having captaincy responsibility has only improved players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and he anticipates Gill would perform similarly if given the chance.

“He performed admirably in everything I saw him do, whether it was for the Gujarat Titans or in Zimbabwe (where Gill captained a T20 series). He has demonstrated excellent body language, which is essential when taking the lead. The BCCI has given him more responsibility now that he is vice captain, and I have no doubt he will succeed in this capacity,” added Rathour, who was cited by NDTV Sports.

“I believe that captaincy would bring out the best in Shubman just as it did for Virat and Rohit. Being a part of the leadership group will also bring out the best in him, even though he isn’t the captain yet. This, I’m positive about. Being in that position and overseeing others gives you an additional degree of responsibility, which is beneficial and, in my opinion, ideal for a young child like Shubman who may one day lead India in all three formats,” he continued.

The Indian cricket controversy about split captaincy takes a new turn.

Split captaincy is unlikely to succeed in Indian cricket, according to former captain of the team MS Dhoni, who announced his resignation from the position. In contrast to his opinions, Gautam Gambhir proposed split captaincy and that Rohit Sharma should be the white-ball captain. Since Rohit has retired from Twenty20 international cricket, Suryakumar Yadav has been named Team India’s captain for both ODIs and Tests, while Gambhir has been named Team India’s head coach.
