Rahul Dravid is reportedly getting ready for an Indian Premier League (IPL) homecoming after leading his team to victory in the T20 World Cup last month. Rumour has it that he is joining the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the league’s 18th season, which is expected to be extremely lucrative.
After a 17-year wait, Rohit Sharma and company won the T20 World Cup, capping Dravid’s 17-year run as India’s head coach. After this incident, rumours circulated that Kolkata Knight Riders, the reigning champions, were attempting to have the former captain of India involved in their coaching staff. But according to a recent Times of India article, Dravid’s appointment as the head coach of the Rajasthan Royals is official and the announcement is about to happen.
According to a source cited by TOI, “RR and Rahul Dravid are in talks, and an announcement in his regard is around the corner.”
Shortly after India won the T20 World Cup, Dravid joked in his final speech as coach that he was “unemployed” and that any offers would be welcomed. But Dravid might have signed a contract to rejoin a team he helped build. Prior to retirement, the 51-year-old played with the Royals for three seasons after joining the team in 2011 as captain. He was the franchise’s mentor in 2014 and 2015.
The first-ever champions don’t have a head coach at the moment; Trevor Penny and Shane Bond are the setup’s assistant coaches, while Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara has been the team’s director of cricket since 2021. It’s uncertain how Dravid’s appointment will affect Sangakkara’s role.

This year’s Indian Premier League campaign was turbulent for Rajasthan. They appeared to be the side to beat when Sanju Samson won eight of their first nine games. They did, however, only win one of their final seven league games, placing them third overall in the standings. They lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 after defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Eliminator.
