Durban Super Giants sign Brandon King in SA20 2025

With the signing of Brandon King, an opener from the West Indies, Durban’s Super Giants have strengthened their batting lineup for SA20 2025. King, 29, has appeared in 142 Twenty20 matches, including 55 Twenty20 Internationals for the West Indies, giving him a wealth of experience as a batter.

The right-hander played a key role for the Windies in the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean, but his participation in the competition was limited due to a side strain he sustained during the Super Eight match against England in St. Lucia. With a strike rate of 133.31 and an average of 27.51, the Jamaican has scored 3349 T20 runs. There are two centuries and twenty-one half-centuries in this run total.

He was selected in the Caribbean Premier League Team of Tournament 2023 after racking up 288 runs with the now-defunct Jamaica Tallawahs during a particularly productive year. In the lead-up to the most recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, King excelled in the Twenty20 International series against the Proteas as well. Throughout the three-match series, he averaged 53.0 runs, topping the run-scoring charts for both sides.

Brandon King becomes the latest in a long line of West Indians who have enhanced Kingsmead over the previous two seasons with their distinct Caribbean flavour.

The West Indies players that have played for DSG include Nicholas Pooran, Johnson Charles, Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder, and Keemo Paul.

The DSG Season 1 team included all-rounders Jason Holder and Keemo Paul, Kings’ West Indian opening partners Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers. Along with Nicholas Pooran, the sensational player from Trinidad and Tobago, who was recruited as a Wildcard, Mayers and Paul made their way back to Durban for Season 2. After finishing as respectable runners-up in Season 2, the Super Giants will be hoping that King’s arrival would help them advance even farther the following season.
