For the Women's T20 Asia Cup, Chamari Athapaththu becomes the first centurion ever

In the Women’s T20I Asia Cup, Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka became the first batter to ever reach a century. In the ladies’s Asia Cup 2024 match versus Malaysian ladies, she accomplished this achievement. She started the innings and finished unbeaten on 119 off 69, adorning her effort with seven maximums and fourteen boundaries at a strike rate of 172.46. Because to her innings, Sri Lanka achieved a formidable target of 185.

In 2018, Chamari Athapaththu achieved an undefeated 97 runs against Malaysia, surpassing the mark held by former India captain Mithali Raj.

When the captain of Sri Lanka earned her third century, her most recent tonne against Malaysia made her the first player from the whole member nation to score multiple hundreds in a calendar year.

Bowlers from Sri Lanka destroy the Malaysian batter’s defence.

Even though Vishmi Gunaratne and Kavisha Dilhari only managed one run apiece and zero runs, respectively, Harshitha Madavi and Anushka Sanjeewani scored 26 and 31 runs, respectively.

While chasing, the Malaysian women were taken down and reeled with 37 runs on the board after losing seven wickets in 15.3 overs as they kneeled in the face of Sri Lanka’s deadly bowling.

Sri Lanka won their opening match of the tournament, defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets in the preceding match. Due to their higher Net Run Rate, they will advance to the postseason with a victory over Malaysia. After defeating Malaysia in the first game, Sri Lanka will meet Thailand in their third game in an attempt to secure a postseason berth with a string of victories.
