The Vijay Hazare Trophy could determine Hardik Pandya’s ODI future

The Vijay Hazare Trophy could determine Hardik Pandya's ODI future

The BCCI is concerned about Hardik Pandya’s bowling fitness since they don’t think the all-round player is ready to bowl 10 overs in an ODI. With only three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) remaining against England to establish his worth and earn a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025, the 30-year-old chose not to participate in the forthcoming 50-over series against Sri Lanka, citing personal concerns.

Although his performance in T20Is satisfied the BCCI officials, he hasn’t played in the longer formats since recovering from an injury, so his stamina hasn’t been put to the test. According to a person with knowledge of the situation, the cricket player from Gujarat would be included in the next Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Hardik Pandya will be given consideration for ODIs in the future if he performs well.

Hardik hasn’t been tried in larger formats, despite his remarkable performance bowling just four overs in T20 cricket following his injury recovery. His endurance must be kept an eye on. The Times of India was informed by a BCCI source that the selectors will be monitoring his performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the end of the year.

In any format, Hardik is no longer the default pick. In T20I cricket, his lack of assurance about his availability has cost him leadership, and if the cricketer’s condition doesn’t improve—especially in longer formats—he will drop down the rankings. The all-rounder’s explosiveness has diminished, according to the source, who also mentioned that his workload would be strictly watched moving ahead.

“Hardik’s previous explosiveness has diminished in his batting.” While he did well in the T20 World Cup, his real contribution comes when he bowls well and completes his allotted number of overs. He was hurt during the World Cup last year, which was his last ODI. That implies he would have missed more than a year of ODI cricket. The insider continued, “His workload needs to be monitored.”
