"Calm down, people," Rohit Sharma's cheeky reply to the Mitchell Starc shouts in Dallas

The world champion captain of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma, was amused by an incident that occurred during a promotional event in Dallas, Texas. Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was called out by fans, and in response, he responded in a collected and funny way that has since gone viral on social media.

The anthems were a nod to a notable scene from the recently finished Twenty20 World Cup 2024, in which Sharma outclassed Starc and amassed 29 runs in an over during a pivotal Super Eight match. At the Daren Sammy International Cricket Stadium in Saint Lucia, this outstanding batting performance assisted India in building a sizable score against Australia.

Notably, supporters began to jokingly heckle the 37-year-old with “Mitchell Starc” chants during the opening of a cricket academy in Dallas, where he was present with his siblings. The emcee of the event stepped in swiftly and asked that everyone show the Indian cricket player some respect. Sharma answered coolly at this point, saying, “Calm down, guys.” Loud applause filled the room as a result of this straightforward but effective reaction, which lightened the mood.

Jay Shah says that Rohit Sharma would captain India in both Tests and ODIs.

Following India’s successful 20-team tournament campaign, Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from T20 International cricket. Even after giving up the shorter format, Sharma is still an important member of the Indian team in Tests and ODIs.

The veteran will captain India in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 and the World Test Championship 2025 final, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has confirmed. With 4,231 runs in 159 games, The Hitman finished his T20I career on a high note as the format’s top scorer. In T20 internationals, he also shares the record for most centuries (five).

The Men in Blue will play three Twenty20 Internationals and as many One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka in the interim. July 27 is the date of the series; games on July 28 and July 30 will follow. It will be intriguing to observe how the squad performs with a new coach after Gautam Gambhir assumes the position of Head Coach.
