'Certainly, our planning on him being in Pakistan." - George Bailey  David Warner's 2025 Champions Trophy participation
Following his participation in every Australian match during the T20 World Cup last month, David Warner concluded an incredible international career that saw him amass 18,995 runs from 383 games in all three formats.

Warner played in the 50-over World Cup in India last year and then retired from ODIs. The lucky hitter is open to exploring options in the various T20 leagues throughout the globe after saying goodbye to the Test and T20I venues this year. He has, nevertheless, indicated his desire to compete in Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy the following year.

Despite ruling out Warner’s participation in the major event, Australia’s national selector George Bailey praised Warner for his services to the Men in Yellow across all three forms of international cricket.

According to what we hear, David is retiring. We salute him for an amazing career spanning three formats. We definitely don’t plan on him being in Pakistan,” ESPNcricinfo cited Bailey as saying.

You never know when Bull will make a joke.believe he’s merely stirring things up a little. His career has been amazing, and we should all be happy for him. As time passes and we consider the impact he has had on Australia, we can only imagine that his legend as a player will only get stronger. However, it will be great to watch this team’s progress and the transfer to some new players—in his case, across all three formats,” he continued.

Australia is not necessarily closing the door on the veterans, even though they want to include more youthful players in their T20 lineup. Their Twenty20 International team for the series against England and Scotland was recently announced. Bailey stated that although Matthew Wade is not included in the team, there is still hope for the wicketkeeper-batter. The former captain of Australia stated that Josh Inglis’ performance is something the selectors are eager to see.

“Aside from David, I don’t believe there is anyone else whose absence we have forever marked. We are using this squad in this manner. It’s possible that Wadey won’t return if opportunities present themselves or there are holes at other times, but for now, we are eager to give Josh [Inglis] a chance,” Bailey stated.

In any case, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc will soon be lifting the Champions Trophy: George Bailey

Despite Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc’s ages of 35 and 34, respectively, Bailey claimed that both players will be part of Australia’s plans for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The T20 portion of the UK tour will feature a rested pair of experienced players.

“The next T20 World Cup is 2026, so I imagine there may be some more changes than what we are seeing in this squad but specifically to those guys [Starc and Maxwell], no we haven’t had any conversations about where they think their T20 journey may finish,” Bailey stated.

“The Champions Trophy is definitely in the near future for Glenn and Mitch, as it is a very significant competition for them. I too believe that Starcy will have an incredible summer. It’s obvious that some of the choices made in relation to this series are about setting priorities and preparing the boys for what promises to be an incredible summer. We haven’t had such discussions about ending players and where guys might end up,” he continued.
