Sanjay Manjrekar, a former batsman for the Indian cricket team, was asked if Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli can be called “The Greatest Cricketer of All Time,” and he responded with an answer that was radically different from what was expected.
Both Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, according to Sanjay Manjrekar, have been exceptional cricket players throughout their own eras, but he considers Viv Richards of the West Indies to be the best player in the history of the game.
The former India batsman elaborated that his statistics in One-Day Internationals and Tests are “earth shattering,” which contributes to his immense reputation in the sport of cricket.
“When you consider the current era, which roughly spans the last 20 years, Virat Kohli is right up there with the best of them. Tendulkar is also considered to be one of the greatest players of all time.
In my opinion, Virat Kohli is best utilised in the one-day format of the game. According to what Manjrekar said to Star Sports, “MS Dhoni is another guy that comes to my mind.”
“But, all-time one-day hitter, there is nobody who can go close to Sir Vivian Richards. He is untouchable.” Now this might strike you as being a little bit archaic,” he continued.
Sanjay Manjrekar went on to say that the level of dominance that Richards exhibited throughout his playing days was quite exceptional for the sport of cricket all over the world, and that the gap between him and his other contemporaries was enormous.
“Viv Richards was a top-class batter during the 1970s and 1990s, a time when all top-class batters, such as Gordon Greenidge, averaged roughly 30 and had a strike rate in the 60s.
Viv Richards had a batting average of 47 and a strike rate of 90 from the 1970s through the 1990s, during which time he scored a hundred in the final of the World Cup. The one who was considered to be the second-best during his time was not even close.
