Following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, captain Rohit Sharma was overjoyed. Rohit was eager to get his hands on the cherished trophy following a devastating heartbreak at the ODI World Cup. On the finals night against South Africa, India looked certain to lose, but the bowlers performed a miracle in the final five overs, turning the country into a party hotspot.
In Delhi and Mumbai, thousands of supporters flocked to rejoice alongside the players. People from Marine Drive in particular joined the champs for the victory lap that ended at Wankhede Stadium. The players performed a dance, sang “Maa Tujhe Salam,” and talked about their experience winning the T20 World Cup for the spectators gathered in the stadium.
As he captained the team in the event, Rohit revealed during the festivities that the 2024 victory holds greater significance for him than the historic victory. The 20-year-old Rohit participated in India’s victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, which was also his first international cricket title. However, the opener maintained the lead for 2024 and said that the Barbados victory meant a lot to him and that he was delighted to share the joy with the Indian cricket community.
“We started in the afternoon and are now in the evening; 2007 had a different experience. Since it was my first World Cup, I will never forget 2007. I’m really pleased of myself because I was leading the squad, which makes it a bit more special. It’s going to get crazy. It’s evident how much this means to the country as a whole as well as to us, as you can see from the excitement. It has great significance. Thus, I’m thrilled that we were able to accomplish something similar for them as well,” Rohit stated in a BCCI-released video.
