Softly probing Rohit Sharma about the flavour of Barbados soil, PM Modi

After winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados soil, on June 29, the Indian team left for Delhi early on July 4. The group arrived at the ITC Maurya Hotel right immediately, and at approximately eleven in the morning, they paid Prime Minister Narendra Modi a visit at his home. The PM questioned Rohit Sharma about the flavour of Barbados soil mud as the squad met with him.

For those who don’t know, Rohit Sharma approached the turf after winning the championship match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, picked up a piece of soil, and placed it in his mouth. Social media was ablaze with comparisons between the antics and tennis player Novak Djokovic’s delight of eating grass. Regarding Rohit, however, he explained that it was purely out of genuine emotion for the location where the much-desired trophy was won. In addition, he said that it was spontaneous and unplanned.

“You know, I was experiencing this at the pitch since that pitch provided us with this. We played on that specific pitch and prevailed in the match on that specific field as well. That pitch and that ground will always remain a part of my memory. I therefore desired to carry some of it with me. Indeed, those are truly unique moments. And I wanted a piece of the land where all of our dreams came true. In a video that BCCI released, Rohit Sharma stated, “That was the feeling behind it.”

Rohit Sharma breaks the ICC trophy jinx for India

After MS Dhoni, Rohit became just the second Indian skipper to hold the T20 World Cup title. After a seventeen-year break, Dhoni, the opening batsman for India, accomplished the feat in 2007. In addition, it was the Indian team’s first World Cup triumph in 13 years and their first ICC championship since 2013. Following the victory, the captain of India, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja declared their retirement from T20Is.
