Maharashtra Council adopts resolution wishing Indian team success in the Twenty20 World Cup

On Wednesday, the Maharashtra Legislative Council unanimously approved a resolution expressing gratitude to the Indian cricket team for their outstanding triumph in the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup. With this historic victory, India’s 17-year T20 World Cup drought and its 11-year quest for an ICC trophy come to an end.

The resolution, which was read out by Neelam Gorhe, the deputy chairperson of the council, honours India’s thrilling seven-run triumph against South Africa in the championship match on June 29. This victory sparked joy and solidarity throughout the country and demonstrated India’s talent as a cricket player.

Drama abounds on the triumphant team’s return trip. The squad was temporarily stranded when Barbados airport was closed due to Hurricane Beryl’s impact. A special Air India flight was organized by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah to return the champions and any accompanying media persons to India, fitting the occasion.

The resolution passed by the Maharashtra Legislative Council captures the excitement of millions of Indians anticipating this moment of glory.

It honors the team’s perseverance, commitment, and the happiness that their accomplishments have given to supporters all throughout the nation.

India scored a respectable 176/7 when they batted first, mostly because of the brilliant 76 from Virat Kohli off just 59 balls. Despite early setbacks, India managed to produce a challenging total thanks to partnerships between Kohli and Axar Patel (47 off 31) and Shivam Dube (27 off 16).

The chase was an exciting ride for South Africa, as Heinrich Klaasen’s lightning-fast 52 threatened to take the game away. But Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya’s death bowling, which limited South Africa to 169/8, proved crucial in India’s thrilling victory.
