BCCI plans India's World Cup triumph parade at Wankhede Stadium

When team India triumphed in the T20 World Cup 2024, ending their ICC curse, the entire nation celebrated. India claimed their second T20 World Cup title following their victory against South Africa in the top match.

The World Champions will have a victory parade, organised by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), as the Men in Blue prepare to return home victorious. The group will be greeted as heroes upon entering the nation. On Thursday at around six in the morning, the aircraft is scheduled to land in Delhi. After changing at the hotel, the Rohit Sharma-led team would meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Gaurav Gupta of TOI reports that following the meeting at the PM’s home, Team India will board a chartered jet and head for Mumbai. A bus procession of one kilometre will lead to the Wankhede Stadium, the location of a minor event.

Afterwards, the players will leave the stadium when Rohit Sharma hands the World Cup trophy to Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI.

India won the T20 World Cup and won it again.

The Men in Blue were particularly excited about the occasion of the T20 World Cup 2024 final because, after winning the Champions Trophy in 2013, India had failed to win any major titles since then. Following their defeat in the 2019 World Cup semifinals, India was knocked out of the 2021 T20 World Cup group stage; they also lost the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final and the 2023 ODI World Cup summit match.

The team advanced undefeated to the T20 World Cup final and faced a daunting task in South Africa. In the final, India proved they had broken the ICC curse with a dominant performance. They defeated South Africa by seven runs and won their second T20 World Cup.
