David Miller disputes reports of T20I retirement

Following South Africa’s failure to get past the last stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 last month, David Miller has denied claims implying he has retired from T20 International cricket.

In the T20 World Cup final matchup between South Africa and India, Miller—one of the most potent hitters in limited-overs cricket—had the chance to lead his team to victory. In the final over, the Proteas required 16 runs to win, and Miller was out of the game. But he was stunningly caught by Suryakumar Yadav at long-off after failing to deposit a full delivery from Hardik Pandya. The Proteas ultimately lost the championship match by a margin of seven runs.

It was recently reported by some that Miller’s last game appearance for the Rainbow Nation in the shortened format was the dramatic final. The news came as a great surprise to fans of cricket, as Miller, who is 35 years old, is still one of the most dangerous players in the league. But the southpaw dispelled all rumours of his retirement on Tuesday, July 2, using an Instagram story.

“I have not given up playing T20 international cricket, despite what some people may have said. I’ll still be accessible for the Proteas. Miller wrote, “The best is still to come.

In 173 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), Miller has amassed 4,458 runs at an average of 42.06 and a strike rate of 103.31 for South Africa. The Pietermaritzburg native, meanwhile, has amassed 2,439 runs at an average of 33.41 and a strike rate of 140.66 in 125 T20Is.

David Miller will compete for LAKR in the 2024 MLC.

In the 2023 Major League Cricket debut season, Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) came in last. In the upcoming season of the lucrative league, which begins on Saturday, July 6, they will be looking for atonement. Before the second season, the team lead by Sunil Narine made a number of significant signings, and Miller is undoubtedly one of them.

With nearly 500 T20 matches under his belt, LAKR will surely benefit from his experience. On July 6, the Los Angeles team kicks off the season against the Texas Super Kings at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
