Ahead of the last Test match next week, Lancashire's James Anderson captures seven wickets

At the Trafalgar Road Ground in Southport, James Anderson proved to be a formidable force as he claimed seven wickets for Lancashire versus Nottinghamshire on the third day of the County Championship Division One match. After his team declared on a competitive score of 353/9, the 41-year-old shocked the Nottinghamshire squad early on.

In the seventh over of the innings, James Anderson struck for the first time while Haseeb Hameed was still in the game. Interestingly, this was Anderson’s first season-long wicket. In the ninth over of the innings, Will Young squeezed one past the keeper Matthew Hurst, giving the swing bowler his second scalp in a short amount of time. It turned into a parade, to put it mildly, as each time Anderson on the pitch, he got rid of a Nottinghamshire batsman.

After Lyndon James Anderson was caught at gully by Will Williams, the Burnley native finished with five wickets.

It took James Anderson just 46 deliveries to secure his 55th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket today. The Lancashire pacer scalped Patterson-White, who was also captured at gully, and carried on with his merry way. At this point, Nottinghamshire’s score was 40/6.

James Anderson was the only player to take a wicket up until this point in the innings, raising the possibility of taking all 10. That did not happen, though, as Tom Bailey claimed the seventh and eighth wickets.

Dillon Pennington’s time at the crease was eventually ended by James Anderson, who arrived to bowl and claim his seventh and last wicket of the innings. His final stats were 16-3-35-7. Ultimately, Lancashire led by 227 runs after Nottinghamshire was bowled out for 126.

The home team chose to make the follow-through mandatory. The openers had a good start, but Nathan Lyon’s catch of Ben Slater in front of the stumps rattled them. Nottinghamshire’s current score, with Will Young and Haseeb Hameed at the wicket, is 63/1.

Returning to Anderson, the 41-year-old will take against the West Indies in his final Test match at Lord’s beginning on July 10. West Indies will be cautious around Anderson when he is in this form.
