Ajinkya Rahane will play for Leicestershire in the County Championship and One-Day Cup.

Ajinkya Rahane, an Indian batsman, has committed to play for Leicestershire for the second half of the county season. He’ll be available for the club’s five County Championship games and its One-Day Cup campaign.

The 36-year-old Ajinkya Rahane had consented to join Leicestershire during the previous summer after being called up to the Indian Test team for the World Test Championship final. He did not play for the county in 2023 after leaving for the West Indies Test tour.

Claude Henderson, the director of cricket at Leicestershire, stated, “We are thrilled to welcome someone of Ajinkya Rahane quality to Leicestershire.”

Ajinkya Rahane schedule didn’t quite fit ours last year, which is disappointing, but having him signed on for the remainder of the season is a huge advantage.

“In addition to his ability to score runs, he possesses invaluable leadership characteristics and a wealth of knowledge that will be extremely helpful to the squad. Our batters now have a tremendous opportunity to learn from one of the best in the game thanks to the presence of Ajinkya Rahane.”

Ajinkya Rahane did not play in any of the Indian Test matches since the Caribbean series in July of last year. Over 13,000 runs at an average of 45.76 have been made by him in first-class cricket, and another 6475 runs at 39.72 in List A.

His presence in mid-July will support Leicestershire’s One-Day Cup defence, which they brilliantly won in September, and replace South Africa’s all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who is due to depart for international service.

“I’m incredibly excited to have another opportunity to come to Leicestershire,” Rahane declared. I’m excited to play for the team this summer since I’ve gotten along well with Claude and [head coach] Alfonso Thomas.

“Last year, I kept an eye on the team’s performance and was rather impressed. This season, I want to enjoy playing cricket and help the club achieve greater success.”
