In the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eights, India’s match vs Afghanistan was outstanding. When the Men in Blue batted first, they took some early knocks, but Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant seized charge and saved the day for the squad. Yadav played some outstanding cricket, scoring 53 runs off of 28 balls to help India get 181 runs. Yadav had faced harsh criticism following a couple disastrous innings earlier in the session.
The pitch in Antigua was getting slower with each ball, so Afghanistan had a mountain to climb. Jasprit Bumrah applied the brakes, dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratmarullah Zazai early in the second innings, despite their desire for a quick start. Afghanistan was under tremendous pressure, and wickets dropped quickly. Following their successful power play, Gulbadin Naib and Azmatullah Omarzai assumed leadership roles in rescuing Afghanistan.
Naib, who had scored 17 runs off 21 balls, left the pitch as they put together a 44-run partnership. He attempted to play over mid-wicket, but Pant made a running catch since he was unable to timing Kuldeep’s delivery. Once Rishabh called it, Rohit Sharma, who was in close proximity to the ball, decided not to attempt. Following the successful catch, the two had a pleasant moment that went viral on social media.

The Indian captain pointed out that he gave Rishabh the ball after the latter made a humorous motion before beaming broadly. After then, they both hugged while India shattered an important alliance.
Gulbadin was dismissed, and wickets started to fall like cards on a house. Veteran bowler Jasprit Bumrah produced another incredible performance tonight, taking three wickets at an incredible economy rate of 1.80. Bumrah was born in Bardoda. India won the match by 47 runs, with Arshdeep Singh taking two wickets at the tail end and three overall. The team had a number of advantages in the game that would give them more confidence going forward in the competition.
