"We showed him to be incorrect." - Rashid Khan emphasises Brian Lara's precise forecast that Afghanistan would make it to the T20 World Cup semifinals.

Afghanistan’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign got off to a strong start with victories over Papua New Guinea, Uganda, and New Zealand. In their final Group C match on Tuesday, June 18, the Blue Tigers, who had already secured their spot in the Super Eight stage, were defeated by the West Indies by 104 runs.

Rashid Khan, the captain of Afghanistan, declared that his team will learn from and use the positives from their lopsided loss to the two-time champions to come back stronger in the Super Eight round of the major tournament.

It is difficult to recover from the way they hit, scoring about 90 runs during the powerplay. We did well, though, in the middle overs, and it was wise to limit them to less than 200. Playing this game can help you learn about strategy and mentality. Rashid remarked at the post-game celebration, “I hope not to repeat.”

“We are taking the good things with us, which include fielding, bowling in the middle overs, and Noor’s spell,” the 25-year-old stated. In an innings where the West Indies amassed 218/5, the youthful left-arm wrist spinner let up just 20 runs in his four overs.

The various pitches that will be made will be accommodated: Rashid Khan

Afghanistan is in Group 1 of the Super Eights with Bangladesh, India, and Australia. Thursday, June 20, at Bridgetown, Barbados, is their next encounter against India. According to Rashid, his side is excited about the battle against Rohit Sharma’s squad. In Kingstown, St. Vincent, Afghanistan will play Australia and Bangladesh. The legendary leg-spinner is hopeful that his team will be able to adapt to the various surfaces available at the various locations.

We’re excited to take on India in this competition. We are prepared to apply the significant lessons we learned from the loss to West Indies in the Super Eight. Reaching the Super Eights was our goal, and we’ve accomplished it. We’ll adapt to the various pitches that will be made. It’s good to know that this defeat occurred at this point and wasn’t in a game of life or death, the Afghan captain said.
