Who will India's Super Eights opponents be in the T20 World Cup 2024?

After defeating Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA in their opening three Group A games, India secured their place in the Super Eight round of the T20 World Cup 2024. India was supposed to play their last group stage match against Canada at Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday, June 15, but the match was called off because of a flooded outfield.

Among the six teams that have secured their spot in the competition’s Super Eight phase is India. It was declared that the teams placing first in Groups A and C and second in Groups B and D will make up Group 1. Group 2 consists of the second-place teams from Groups A and C as well as the top teams from Groups B and D.

After winning Group A, India is currently matched in Group 1 against nations like Afghanistan and Australia. There’s one more berth available in the group, and Bangladesh and the Netherlands are fighting for it. Bangladesh has four points from three games, good for second place in Group D, with a net run-rate (NRR) of +0.478. With two points from three games and an NRR of -0.408, the Netherlands are positioned at No. 3 in the meanwhile.

On Monday, the Bangla Tigers will play their final Group D matchup against Nepal. On the same day, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands square off. Seeing which squad from Group D moves on to enter Group 1 will be interesting.

India’s Super Eight matches are scheduled to take place when and where?

On Thursday, June 20, at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, India will begin their Super Eight campaign against Afghanistan. The Men in Blue will thereafter play on Saturday, June 22 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium against either Bangladesh or the Netherlands.

On Monday, June 24, at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia, India will play their final Group 1 match against the 2021 champions, Australia. The semifinals will be contested by the top two teams from Groups 1 and 2.

The top eight teams in the T20I rankings were pre-seeded by the ICC: the teams who received seedings were India (A1), Pakistan (A2), England (B1), Australia (B2), New Zealand (C1), West Indies (C2), South Africa (D1), and Sri Lanka (D2).

The Super 8 round’s seeding will be maintained, deciding the teams’ matches for this phase regardless of where these teams place in the group table. Furthermore, the unseeded team that emerged from the bracket above the other seed will assume that team’s seeding and Super 8 group placement if the top-seeded club is removed from the competition.
