T20 World Cup 2024: Zeeshan Maqsood unveils the culturally diverse Oman squad

For several Asian nations, Oman serves as a cultural centre. Individuals move to the nation in search of work opportunities and commercial goals from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The national cricket team has also benefited from the Asian tendency towards the Gulf nation. Oman will thus have a diversified team of players that hail from a variety of countries when they represent their country in the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Players from all backgrounds and languages are represented on the team, according to Oman’s Zeeshan Maqsood. He also disclosed that at least four or five languages are fluently spoken by the Oman team members. Cricket players are able to speak Pashto, an Indo-European language from Eastern Iran, according to Maqsood. In addition to being widely spoken in Pakistan and Iran, Pashto is the official language of Afghanistan. Other languages are Arabic, English, Urdu, and Punjabi.

Here’s the video of Zeeshan Maqsood sharing insights about the team:

It was a fantastic chance to network with elite athletes: Ilyas

At the T20 World Cup 2024, Oman, participating in their first-ever ICC event, put on a poor performance. Along with Namibia, Australia, Scotland, and England, they were assigned to Group B. The team finished the group as the first to be eliminated having not won a single game. Oman skipper Aqib Ilyas expressed his appreciation for playing alongside strong teams and big players following their defeat by England.

There’s nothing you can criticise the bowlers for because they were the ones who performed so well throughout the competition. Would have like to end things off well. The major players have a lot to teach us. Being among elite players was a terrific opportunity to learn from them, as you don’t often get to do that. Ilyas stated, “We have to work harder; if you want to have an impact, you need to work a lot harder,” during the post-match ceremony.
