Wriddhiman Saha on his return to Bengal and his future goals

After a two-year absence, Wriddhiman Saha is back in Bengal. Following a public spat, the former wicketkeeper for India moved to Tripura, leaving behind his birth state. Saha stated that he is committed to earning his spot back in the Bengal squad and that he is focused on the here and now at his first media appearance since rejoined the team.

A “friendly discussion” between former India captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife Romi made the 39-year-old’s homecoming possible. Both for Bengal cricket and his career, this is a pivotal moment. In the Bengal Pro T20 League’s maiden season, Saha will play for the Rashmi Medinipur Wizards. He is the star player for the team captained by Sudip Chatterjee, a former cricketer for India A.

“The seats in the dressing room have changed in colour since I visited during practice, but I haven’t seen the CAB officials yet. India Today cited a sentimental Saha as stating, “It looks different.”

Saha declined to dwell on the past, stating that he is eager to give it his all in Bengal’s main T20 competition and establish a case for his inclusion in the state team.

“I have always lived in the present and have never glanced back. From here, my journey has begun. I shall do everything in my power to secure a position on the Bengal side now that I’m back. Wherever I played, I always gave more than my all,” Saha continued.

Bengal has always had my best wishes: Wriddhiman Saha

The short cricket player claimed that his relationship with Bengal did not weaken even while he was living in Tripura. He claimed to have kept tabs on the performances of the two-time Ranji Trophy winners as well as staying in contact with his Bengal squad pals.

“I told Bengal that I always wished them the best when I departed. Everything that transpired here, from the beginning to the end, is Bengali to me. Just because I joined Tripura doesn’t mean that I’m no longer in contact with Bengal. To play Ranji Trophy, I travelled there. I used to come back here after playing and talk to the guys,” Saha said.

The Shaktigarh native was questioned about his interest in leading Bengal during the next domestic campaign. Saha responded by stating again that he wants to live in the now and adding that he hopes to perform well and be chosen for the side. In Saha’s absence, Bengal may choose to start both of the wicketkeeper-batters in their playing XI come season because of the young Abhishek Porel’s outstanding ability.

Since I live in the now, I haven’t given it much thought. The cricketer for the Gujarat Titans stated, “I have to perform well first to get selected.”
