During their 2007 Kenya tour, John Blain was charged with making racial remarks against Majid Haq and Qasim Sheikh, two of his teammates. As a result, the cricket player was taken out of the Hall of Fame and suspended by Scotland Cricket. He was cleared of all charges after more than ten years, and he has since demanded an open and honest investigation into the board’s actions.
In 118 games in all formats, Blain has played for Scotland. An independent probe in July 2022 brought many more cases into the fray, making his case not the only one. Following the investigation, which revealed systematic racism at Scotland Cricket, the board resigned. Blain demanded an open probe on his old Twitter handle, “X.”
“To describe the way sportscotland and Cricket Scotland initially handled that report as a ‘kangaroo court’ is an insult to marsupials everywhere.”Writing under his ‘X’ account, Blain said, “It’s obvious to me that, rather than publish this very clear and detailed judgement which fully exonerates me, Cricket Scotland is once again running scared of the small “anti-racist” cabal which has exerted such a malign influence over our sport.”

Why, eight years after accusing me of using a racist term, did Majid work so hard to convince me to become a professional player-coach at his club, Clydesdale, and recommend me to other Asian players for one-on-one tutoring, he continued, if he really thought I was a racist?
