Satirist Anwar Maqsood's funny denial of Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2024 loss to USA gets viral

The Green Shirts had suffered the biggest upset of the T20 World Cup thus far, and criticism was piling up from all directions. Anwar Maqsood, a well-known poet and humourist from Pakistan, has joined the trend. With affection, Maqsood has denounced Pakistan for having capitulated to the United States in order to receive assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). For the uninitiated, the IMF is a global institution that offers financial assistance to nations that require it.

In their opening encounter of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday, June 6, Pakistan (PAK) had a terrible performance against the newcomers, the United States of America (USA). The Minnows outperformed the defending champions in an exciting Super Over. Before scoring an incredible 18 runs in the Super Over, the USA tied Pakistan’s score of 159. With just 13 runs in response, the Men in Green were unable to bring down the target.

Pakistan was compelled to suffer a defeat. It’s time for an IMF-approved loan. The grant has not been given to us. It was almost like there was a catch: “We’ll give the money if you lose to America.” No other explanation comes to mind. “I believe the Pakistanis who purchased the game tickets will resell them for half the price,” Maqsood stated in a widely shared video.

See here for Anwar Maqsood’s sarcastic analysis of Pakistan’s defeat:

The USA outperformed us in each of the three categories: Babar Azam

At the Nassau County Stadium in New York on June 9, Pakistan and India will play in their next Twenty20 World Cup match. The game is crucial for the Babar Azam-led team, and a loss would seriously hurt their chances of moving on to the Super 8 stage. The Pakistani captain acknowledged that his spinners lost the match after the defeat. The surface was wet during the entire match, and Pakistan’s spinners were unable to take any wickets.

When batting, we failed to profit on the first six overs. You’re always at a disadvantage when you take consecutive wickets; as a batter, you have to take initiative and form partnerships. In the first six overs with the ball, we fell short of the mark. We lost wickets in the middle overs because our spinners failed to take any. It’s extremely difficult; we can’t take credit for the USA’s superior performance in all three areas. The pitch was two-paced and had a slight amount of wetness. During the post-match presentation, Babar stated, “As a professional, you need to assess the conditions.”
