The ICC has stated that no T20 World Cup matches will be moved from the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, despite rising concerns over the quality of the pitches.
The recent games played here have raised serious concerns. After South Africa bowled them out for just 77 on Monday, Sri Lanka was dealt its lowest T20I score. On Wednesday, India dismissed Ireland for 96 runs after this. These events have raised questions about the erratic nature of the drop-in pitches.
India has reportedly quietly voiced concerns about the safety of its players because of the fields’ uneven bounce and poor quality, according to BBC Sport. With the much-awaited India vs. Pakistan match scheduled for this Sunday, which is predicted to draw a capacity crowd of 32,000 at Eisenhower Park, this concern is especially urgent.
It has been stated that the ICC is studying data from past games to figure out what to do in the event that more problems occur. They do not, however, appear to have any plans to move the New York matches to alternative locations with natural turf pitches, such as Florida or Texas. A pitch that is not currently in use has been set aside for the India vs. Pakistan match; however, this could be altered depending on how other pitches perform in the lead-up to the game.
