And winning T20 World Cup in front of our fans will be much better: Windies' Nicholas Pooran
If the West Indies are to win a record-tying third T20 World Cup, stumper-batter Nicholas Pooran will need to be a major player. During the just finished Indian Premier League (IPL), the southpaw was in excellent form and crushed a 25-ball 75 in the West Indies’ lone warm-up match against Australia. Before the ninth T20 World Cup, his impressive run of form would instill a great deal of hope among Caribbean fans.

Under the inspiring captaincy of Daren Sammy, the Windies won the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2012. They achieved a first in 2016 as they won the coveted cutlery twice. The present team aspires to win the title again, but this time in front of their supporters, according to Pooran, who made his debut a few months after the second T20 World Cup triumph. The United States of America and the West Indies will jointly host the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Everyone wants to relive the unique emotion they experienced after winning the two T20 World Cups when they return to this place after a two-year absence. I think that moment should happen again for everyone. They desire a piece of that winning sensation. It’s even more meaningful to do it in front of our supporters, Pooran told ESPNcricinfo.

May 2022 saw the prominent cricket player take over as white-ball skipper from Kieron Pollard. Six months later, though, he gave up the position; Cricket West Indies (CWI) made this choice as part of an immediate post-2022 World Cup assessment. Pooran and company only prevailed in one of their three first-round matches in the 2022 edition, losing badly to Ireland and Zimbabwe, who advanced before them.

The guys in our group have changed: Nicholas Pooran

The 28-year-old Pooran stated that he has moved on from the scandal along with a few other players and is looking forward to a fresh start in the upcoming game.

“As teammates and as players, we have all developed. Everyone was hurt when we played in Australia and didn’t qualify. After that, I also gave up my position as captain. Everyone suffered harm. However, we are not that set of guys anymore,” Pooran remarked.

All of us are aware of the stakes in this. We are all aware that we have the chance to clearly make amends and bring joy and pride to the cricket fans in the Caribbean and around the globe. We are also much better players this time around. The majority of our players who participate in franchise cricket are aware of the requirements for becoming professionals,” he continued.
