In the 14th over of Rajasthan’s innings, Hetmyer was removed by Abhishek Sharma as they were having difficulty reaching their 176-run goal. The Punjab all-rounder cleaned him out, and in a fit of rage, Hetmyer smashed the stumps. Per the IPL Code of Conduct, the 27-year-old was found guilty of a Level 1 infraction. Upon his admission of guilt, he was penalized ten percent of his match fees.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) punished Rajasthan’s Shimron Hetmyer for violating the code of conduct.
“Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Javagal Srinath, a former sprinter from India and Qualifier 2 match referee, issued the penalty. “According to IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.2, Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offense. He acknowledged the offense and consented to the Match Referee’s punishment. The decision made by the Match Referee is final and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct, according to BCCI.
The BCCI did not specify the specific reason for the penalty, but it was most likely prompted by Hetmyer’s response following his dismissal at a critical point in the game. Since joining the Royals, the left-handed hitter has emerged as one of the league’s top finishers. If he had stayed until the very end, he could have taken the Royals home.

Heinrich Klaasen scored 50 runs off of 34 balls and Rahul Tripathi scored 37 off of 15 balls to help Sunrisers set a target of 176 for the Royals earlier in the day. Sandeep Sharma added a couple of wickets, while Trent Boult and Avesh Khan each claimed three for Rajasthan.
Dhruv Jurel, playing for the Royals, responded with a gutsy 56 off 35 balls, remaining undefeated. But as wickets continued to fall all around him, the Sanju Samson-led team was bowled out for 139/7 in their 20 overs. With stats of 3/23 in his four overs, Shahbaz Ahmed shone as the Orange Army’s ball player. In his opening four-over bowling spell of the year, Abhishek Sharma also claimed a handful of wickets. T Natarajan and captain Pat Cummins both contributed a wicket in the meantime.
