Yuvraj Singh Favors Rishabh Pant Over Sanju Samson for T20 World Cup 2024 Wicketkeeper

Prior to the highly anticipated tournament that will be held in the West Indies and the USA, Yuvraj Singh, a former all-rounder for India, has stated that he prefers the southpaw position in the Men in Blue lineup. With Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant both having a good chance of keeping wickets for India in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, the argument over who should do so has been heating up.

Pant was long viewed as MS Dhoni’s backup behind the stumps in all forms of cricket. However, Samson’s chances improved when an automobile accident in 2022 left him incapacitated indefinitely. With 504 runs in 14 matches in IPL season, the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR) has scored magnificently. In January, he struck an ODI century against South Africa.

Even though Samson has been playing excellently lately, the former Indian all-rounder believes the left-hander would be more beneficial to the team in the middle order.

“I think I would choose Rishabh. Sanju is undoubtedly in excellent form as well, but Rishabh is a left-hander, and I think he has a ton of potential to win games for India, as he has in the past. Much more in Test cricket, and he’s someone I think has the ability to win matches on a major platform, Yuvraj informed the ICC.

A few left-hand and right-hand combos would be nice to see: Yuvraj Singh

The cricket player who won the 2007 World Twenty20 believes that left-right batting combinations make it more difficult for bowlers. Singh then provided support for Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who batted first, Virat Kohli at number three, and Suryakumar Yadav at number four.

“I firmly believe that Yasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma ought to open. Virat Kohli bats at number three, and that is where he has been all season. After that, you have Surya (Yadav) at four and a few significant options. It is more difficult to consistently bowl at two combinations, so I’d want to see a few left-hand, right-hand combinations,” Yuvi continued.

The 42-year-old was also happy to see Yuzvendra Chahal, who had previously been left off of the World Cup roster, make a comeback. With 17 wickets in 13 games thus far in the IPL, the leg spinner has also made a significant contribution.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s return to the team was welcome as he has been bowling exceptionally effectively. Additionally, you may see a slowdown in wickets during the second part of the World Cup, so it’s wise to have a few spin bowling options available. In addition to (Mohammed) Siraj and Jasprit (Bumrah), we also have experience with Arshdeep (Singh). Thus, it appears to be a very powerful side, but we still need to provide evidence,” the Punjabi native said.
