Jay Shah made this discovery while watching the Indian Premier League (IPL), where a number of players have been showing off their prowess in front of a large audience. The World Cup squad cannot be chosen by the selectors purely based on IPL results, the BCCI secretary underlined.
The Indian men’s cricket team is focusing on the selection process for their roster as they prepare for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, provided insight into the selectors’ methodology for choosing the squad for the major tournament.
In an exclusive interview with the Times of India, he stated, “The selectors can’t choose based on IPL performance alone, as overseas experience is also necessary.”
Jay Shah was upbeat about India’s prospects at the Twenty20 World Cup, saying, “We performed well in the previous ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, but we were unable to secure the championship. “I have high hopes for us to win the T20 World Cup this year,” he continued.

Speaking about possible opponents, Jay Shah mentioned the West Indies, Australia, New Zealand, and India as the teams to watch out for because of their background in the game’s shortest format. “India, Australia, New Zealand and the hosts, West Indies, because they are good in T20,” Shah went on to say.
Thinking back to the roles he and Roger Binny had been assigned.”The brains behind cricket are Roger Binny. While I handle the administrative and financial aspects of cricket, he participates in every decision made in the sport. But in the end, we work together on everything. We have an extremely open and collaborative procedure,” he went on.
Regarding the IPL’s impact player regulation, the BCCI secretary also addressed concerns expressed by current and former cricket players, saying that the organisation is in consultation with all relevant parties and is willing to make adjustments if needed.

“This instance is a test. Players, franchisees, and everyone else involved are being consulted. More Indian players seem to be receiving opportunities to play, and I think the matchups are becoming more exciting. We will make changes if our consultations indicate that there is unhappiness,” he said.
