"India lost the second round in 2007, which devastated us in the Caribbean. That's not something we want to occur again," Brian Lara remarked.

T20 World Cup 2024: Brian Lara omits Australia and Pakistan from his semi-final predictions

For the T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies next month, the legendary Brian Lara selected his four semi-finalists.

In less than three weeks, the ninth T20 World Cup will take place, and the cricket community is buzzing with anticipation. Up to 20 teams will compete in this major event for the first time when the competition for the coveted cutlery starts on June 2.

One of the best batters who have ever played, Brian Lara wants to see the West Indies play India in the June 29 summit match. In both 2012 and 2016, the West Indies emerged victorious. India, on the other hand, has won the first edition, having emerged victorious in 2007.

With the calibre of players the Caribbean side has in their lineup, the former cricket player turned analyst is optimistic about their chances of success. While Brian Lara believed that the Asian powers will at least place in the top four, not everyone was pleased with India’s squad selection for the main event.

“The West Indies ought to succeed. They have many individual stars, and they perform effectively as a team when they work together. Despite their fierce selection, India manages to secure a spot in the top four. The final between India and the West Indies will make up for a great deal of the wrongs committed in the past. India lost the second round in 2007, which devastated us in the Caribbean. That is not what we want to recur.

Therefore, it’s India vs. West Indies in the championship match, and may the best team prevail,” Brian Lara was cited by Cricket Pakistan.

Lara predicted Afghanistan and the defending champion England to advance to the semifinals in addition to these two teams. On June 2, USA and Canada will play each other in the season’s opening match.
