There was a contentious call made during Thursday’s Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Rajasthan Royals game. Travis Head was on strike when the event happened in the fifteenth over of the SRH innings. Head missed the ball because it was well outside the off stump while attempting to drive a bigger delivery from Avesh Khan. Head was caught short of his crease as Sanju Samson grabbed the ball and flung it back towards the stumps.
According to the playback, the SRH batter’s bat was in the air when the ball struck the stumps. But Rohan Pandit, the third umpire, decided that the hitter was still in. After Kumar Sangakkara was seen disputing with the fourth umpire, this decision infuriated the RR dugout. But the next ball, Avesh delivered an identical delivery and removed Head, giving RR a chance to rally. Head shuffled across, trying to play the ball down the leg side, but he ended up driving it into the stumps.
Once more, their umpire made a terrible decision. Two more frames were available to view. “Head’s bat was in the air,” Irfan Pathan stated live.
We call that Karma. Just following Head’s firing, Sunil Gavaskar made a commentary and said, “Karma strikes.”
In a thrilling last-ball match, SRH defeats RR to win the match.
Having won the toss, SRH had a difficult start to the Powerplay as they lost the wickets of Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma. But SRH was able to bounce back from the early loss thanks to Head and Nitish Reddy’s combination of 96 runs off 57 deliveries. The squad scored a competitive 201 for 3 thanks to Heinrich Klaasen’s fast final inning of 42 out of 19 balls.

Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson of the Royals both lost wicket quickly in the second innings, as Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed two in the opening over. To keep RR in the game, though, Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal put together a partnership of 133 runs. To put more strain on RR, however, SRH’s bowlers mounted a valiant fightback and quickly claimed wickets. Ultimately, the game came down to the final ball, when SRH was able to steal the victory. The battle went to the wire.
