Mitchell Marsh will captain Australia's T20 World Cup squad in 2024

With the T20 World Cup 2024 about to start on June 2, Cricket Australia (CA) grabbed center stage and revealed their 15-man team that will be heading to the West Indies and the USA. Star all-around player Mitchell Marsh will captain the team, along with a host of other celebrities, including Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Tim David, David Warner, and many more.

But in a significant turn of events, veteran batter Steve Smith was left off of the tournament’s tentative 15-man roster. In addition, Jake Fraser-McGurk, a promising young player who has been playing brilliantly in the IPL, has been left out.

The board decided to go with Ashton Agar as a backup all-rounder and Cameron Green as a second specialist spinner since both players will provide the team greater versatility.

While many were surprised to see Fraser-McGurk left off the roster, Steve Smith’s absence was anticipated.

Playing for my nation has been an enormous honor. Mitchell Marsh

Marsh spoke up to discuss how much of an honor it is for him to play for his country after being given the duty of leading Australia in the T20 World Cup. He conveyed his appreciation to the players who will be traveling to the USA and the West Indies for the competition, as well as to the board.

Playing for my country has been an enormous honor, and now leading the team to a World Cup is even more significant. Having such a wonderful group of people as our players and staff makes me very happy. ESPNcricinfo cited Marsh as saying, “We’ve had some great results lately, and I think we can build on that in what appears to be a really competitive competition.”
