The USA and the West Indies will share hosting duties for the T20 World Cup in June 2024. In addition to revealing their 15-person roster for the main event, Cricket South Africa (CSA) also revealed the names of a few reserve players on Tuesday, April 30.
Aiden Markram will, not unexpectedly, be leading the team in the championship match. Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen, and Quinton de Kock—three of the team’s best wicketkeeper-batters—have also been included. Reeza Hendricks is anticipated to bat first for the former. In the meantime, the star-studded lineup will feature David Miller in the crucial role of finisher. The selectors have decided to go with Ryan Rickelton over Donovon Ferreira, another batsman and wicketkeeper. The former has participated in two ODIs and four Tests, but he has not yet earned a T20I cap.
The three specialist spinners selected for the team are Bjorn Fortuin, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Keshav Maharaj. The trio of Gerald Coetzee, Anrich Nortje, and Kagiso Rabada will lead the pace department in the meantime. While Coetzee has been in incredible form, taking 12 wickets in eight matches at the age of 24, Rabada has played respectably in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Nonetheless, Nortje’s performance has been quite concerning due to his history of injuries. Lizaad Williams, a fellow countryman, recently benched the quick player for the Delhi Capitals because he has been giving up runs at a 13.36 economy rate.
Also included in the squad is uncapped Ottniel Baartman, who finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in SA20 2024. The top wicket-taker in SA20 2024, Marco Jansen, will be used as an all-rounder with seam bowling in the Proteas lineup. The promising Nandre Burger and seasoned Lungi Ngidi have been selected as the traveling reserves.
In the T20 World Cup 2024, South Africa is grouped with teams from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands. On June 3, Markram and company will take on Sri Lanka, the defending champions, in New York.
