‘No one bats first in Kolkata’ – Aakash Chopra contests Rishabh Pant’s choice to side with KKR

"If that's the truth, I have to talk about it; else, I'm being too critical. Only twice in the previous 30 games here has the winning side chosen to bat first, according to Aakash Chopra.

‘No one bats first in Kolkata’ - Aakash Chopra contests Rishabh Pant's choice to side with KKR

The team will try to forget the recent matchup between the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Delhi lost to KKR by seven wickets when they played the two-time winners, and many people thought that the visitors should not have batted first at Eden Gardens.

DC won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite this, they only scored 153 runs in the first inning, with Kuldeep Yadav leading the way with 35 runs in just 26 deliveries.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra came up to review the match and criticise DC’s choice to bat first as well. In addition to saying that Sourav Ganguly should have understood everything there was to know about the pitch, the 46-year-old expressed the opinion that no one bats first in Kolkata.

“After winning the toss, who bats first? Not to be overly critical, but if that is the case, I need to discuss it. Only twice in the last 30 games has the winning side chosen to bat first, and both times they were defeated. Aakash Chopra stated in a video posted on his YouTube account, “It’s not that you always win while chasing, but nobody bats first in Kolkata.”

Delhi declared they would bat first, but whatever occurs, the batting gets a little easier later. It caught me off guard. Who else could have read this pitch if Sourav Ganguly couldn’t? Like the back of his hand, this pitch. You are aware of everything; therefore, it was incomprehensible,” he continued.

I was very surprised. Aakash Chopra

Additionally, Aakash Chopra discussed Pant’s strategy during his innings against KKR. DC lost the game, in his opinion, because Pant seemed to be attempting something new with each ball.

“After four wickets fell in rapid succession, you had high hopes that captain Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel would lead their team out of danger. That being said, I was taken aback. Rishabh, you are not able to bat like that. Off each ball, it appeared as though he was attempting to do something new. He made repeated attempts to play the identical shot, according to Chopra.
