This season, there has been a lot of discussion among cricket players and fans about the Impact Player rule that was introduced in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The captain of the Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, has joined the increasing number of Team India players who have voiced their opinions on this controversial rule and its effects on the scoring dynamics of the game.
Diverse opinions have been expressed regarding the Impact Player rule, an IPL tactical innovation. It permits teams, following the toss and prior to the commencement of the 14th over of either innings, to replace a player from their playing XI with a dugout contingent member. Although some players are concerned about the rule’s application, it intends to improve strategic depth.
Gill said he didn’t like the Impact Player regulation. As per Gill, teams have an extra edge when they can substitute a bowler or batsman midway through the innings, which permits batters to continue playing aggressively without worrying about losing wickets.
Impact Player may have played some part in that, in my opinion. even if you are bowled out in the middle overs or powerplay. Each team has a cushion, as you are aware. They therefore just keep going, and they cannot simply play out in middle overs if they hope to get off to a strong start. Gill stated this at the post-game presentation after the team’s close four-run loss to DC. “They need to keep going and get a good score in the end.”

Daniel Vettori, the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, recognised the impact of the rule on team selection. The former Kiwi player backed the rule, saying it had assisted the team in selecting a well-rounded roster.
Our selection was quite simple because of the impact rule. Because you cover so much ground, I believe. Before the RCB match, he stated during the pre-match press conference, “When it comes to the selection table, it makes our lives a lot easier.”

There have been numerous high-scoring totals scored in the IPL since the rule’s adoption. This season has produced five of the six highest scoring totals in IPL history. Every team now routinely scores 220 runs, making it an extremely attainable goal.
