Shubman Gill recently gave a candid interview prior to their game against the Delhi Capitals, discussing his cricket path and crediting his father as the main motivator for his professional development. Gill traced his family’s history from their modest village upbringing to their adjustment to city life. He appreciated his parents’ constant support and the significant influence their guidance has had on the way he approaches the game.
“It’s evident that my father had the biggest influence—we used to live in the village first, where he used to practice. Moving to the city after that was such a huge change. Following that, we practiced there, and everything I learned there—along with one major life shift—had a significant impact on me because my parents and father were always by my side. Shubman Gill exclusively spoke to Star Sports about this.
The cricket player cited Indian head coach Rahul Dravid’s priceless counsel on having faith in one’s ability, highlighting the importance of trust in both life experiences and cricket obstacles. He emphasized how important it is to follow through on one’s plan of action and trust one’s gut feelings, regardless of outside events.
Whether in the game or in life, I always felt that trust was the best course of action. “You have to always trust your game, regardless of the circumstances, your preparation, or whether it’s up to India A or even India,” the ace batter said. Rahul Sir had told him this.

Instead of focusing on mechanical changes, the Punjabi-born player emphasized how experience and learning have improved his game and how important mental development is to improving his hitting ability. He highlighted the psychological changes and realizations he received from playing every game, attributing his steady progress to his cumulative on-field experiences.

“Any changes I made to my game, whether technical or not, came from experience. I feel that as I play balls and get better, that experience seeps into my batting and causes a mental shift that results in the change that occurs,” Gill said in closing.
